MIRANDA DELGADO, Rafael Gustavo. Political systems of the Southern Cone and Brazil. A Compared Historical Analysis from Independence to the Present. Acad. (Asunción) [online]. 2020, vol.7, n.1, pp.67-81. ISSN 2414-8938.  https://doi.org/10.30545/academo.2020.ene-jun.7.

In Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Brazil there were some of the earliest democratic experiences in Latin America and these four countries have shared similar political itineraries over the last decades, such as transitions from democracy to authoritarianism and from authoritarianism to democracy, and political ideological realignments. Therefore, we aim is to comparing the historical evolution of the political systems of the Southern Cone and Brazil. The methodology used is the Comparative Historical Analysis (CHA). The article states that the understanding of contemporary political processes requires systematically analyzing the origins and continuities of the underlying configurations of the main institutions and their interrelations, and that the configurations of political systems are cumulative and complex processes.

Palavras-chave : Political systems; Southern Cone; Brazil; comparative historical analysis (CHA); transitions.
