Abstract
CHAN CHI, Gladis Ivette; DRUET DOMINGUEZ, Nora Verónica and SEVILLA SANTO, Dora Esperanza. The meaning of life and goals setting in high school students. Acad. (Asunción) [online]. 2020, vol.7, n.1, pp.22-32. ISSN 2414-8938. https://doi.org/10.30545/academo.2020.ene-jun.3.
The research aimed to evaluate the academic, occupational and personal goals in the short and long-term which help to build the meaning of the life of 158 high school students in a Yucatan public baccalaureate. A quantitative methodological approach, a type of descriptive study and a non-experimental survey type design were used. The sample was conformed by volunteers subjects whose ages ranged between 15 and 18 years. The results showed coincidences in the short term between both sexes about finishing the baccalaureate, get into the university and working. On the other hand, it was found that men were focused on setting goals related to their physical health while women were more interested in travel. While with the long-term goals, both sexes were agreed to achieve a Bachelor´s degree, work, have a family, purchasing goods and travel. Entrepreneurship represents an area of opportunity, because there are few young people interested, even when the labor model has changed. Educational authorities have to improve it focusing their efforts on promoting in their students the development of entrepreneurial projects that allow them to generate employment opportunities.
