Abstract

OVELAR-FERNANDEZ, Walter-Daniel. Comparative analysis of mission statements of banks that operates in Paraguay. Acad. (Asunción) [online]. 2020, vol.7, n.1, pp.1-10. ISSN 2414-8938.  https://doi.org/10.30545/academo.2020.ene-jun.1.

This article has as its main purpose to evaluate the components present in the mission statements of the Paraguayan banks. For this purpose, the 17 websites of national banks were visited. To analyze the effectiveness of the mission statements, the model of Pearce & David (1987) was chosen, applying the content analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the mission statements identified. According to these authors, to be effective, a mission statement must incorporate nine basic elements, which will serve as a guide for strategic planning. According to the results obtained, the main components present in the mission statements of the Paraguayan banks are the following: clients, services, philosophy and self-concept. In relation to effectiveness, most of the banks analyzed (11) presented 53% of the nine components proposed by Pearce & David (1987). It is concluded that the mission statements of the studied banks are still not fully adapted to the model of Pearce & David (1987), in such a way that they fulfill an effective role within their business strategy processes.
