With the aim of studying the rupture processes in therapeutic alliance and its association with therapeutic change and early drop-out in psychotherapy. Fifteen patients diagnosed with emotional disorders were divided en three groups, each one with five participants: drop-out patients, patients with change and none change patients. The first four sessions were analyzed by four judges using the Rupture Resolution Rating System by a consensual method. Afterwards differential patterns of ruptures and resolutions were analyzed in each group. On average 1,18 (SD= 1,74) ruptures were found per session. Withdrawal (54,72%) and Confrontation (45,28%) ruptures were found evenly. Early change patients had higher resolution rupture ratio (ratio= 0,50) than none change patients (ratio= 0,30). There were no differences in the ruptures between groups. Results suggests that alliance ruptures don’t imply a threat on itself to treatments (in terms of early processes and drop-out). However, the resolution of said ruptures could improve early responses.
