Abstract

BURGOS, Christa; ALFONSO, Laura; FERRO, Esteban  and  LANGJAHR, Patricia. Immunomodulatory activity of species of the genus Baccharis. Rev. parag. reumatol. [online]. 2022, vol.8, n.1, pp.45-50. ISSN 2413-4341.  https://doi.org/10.18004/rpr/2022.08.01.45.

Plants of the Baccharis genus are used in folk medicine from South-America for the relief and treatment of various diseases, including those involving inflammatory processes, and are therefore a potential source of compounds with activity on the immune system. The gro wing need for new drugs with immunomodulatory activity has redirected attention to plants of traditional medicinal use. Several studies reveal the immunomodulatory activity of different species that are part of this genus, highlighting the anti-inflammatory activity. Among the most studied species are Baccharis trimera and B. dracunculifolia. The aim of this review article is to provide a complete and updated overview of the available information on the activity of plant extracts and compounds from the Baccharis genus on the modulation of immune system responses.

Keywords : Baccharis; immunity; inflammation.
