Abstract
MOREL, Zoilo; MELGAREJO, Patricia; FRANCO, Marco and DELGADILLO, Pedro. Systemic and cutaneous polyarteritis nodosa in children. Rev. parag. reumatol. [online]. 2018, vol.4, n.2, pp.52-57. ISSN 2413-4341. https://doi.org/10.18004/rpr/2018.04.02.52-57.
Polyarteritis Nodosa (PAN) is defined as necrotizing arteritis of medium or small arteries without glomerulonephritis or vasculitis in arterioles, capillaries, or venules, and not associated with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA). PAN is more frequent in adults, with the same presentation in both genders. We present the case of a 13-year-old boy with prolonged fever, arthralgias, myositis, lower limb edema, generalized petechial and ecchymotic lesions, deep vein thrombosis in the left leg, ischemia with subsequent necrosis of the left thumb, with diagnosis of systemic PAN; He received treatment with corticosteroids, IVIG and cyclophosphamide, with clinical improvement. The second case corresponds to a 9-year-old male, with acute fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, palpable nodules and petechiae in the lower and upper limbs, livedo reticularis in the lower limbs, with diagnosis of PANc, having received only corticoids, with excellent evolution.
