Abstract

MARIN-MAMANI, Grover et al. Kernel density analysis in the zoning of fear of crime perception. Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2023, vol.10, n.1, pp.69-81. ISSN 2409-8752.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2023.010.01.069.

Victimization due to fear of suffering some type of crime against their mental and physical health has become the main concern of Latin American citizens; citizen insecurity is the main problem of governments. For this reason, the objective of the study is to identify patterns and areas of fear of crime produced by the perception of criminality in the city of Juliaca. The 180 citizens over 18 years of age were consulted about their perception of crime (having suffered or witnessed a crime), asking for their location, general information about the crime and taking a photograph of the specific place, to structure a spatial database in UTM WGS84 coordinates, proceeding to develop the spatial analysis using Kernel density to obtain partial maps of type (crime) and frequency (crime), and then adding the results with the map algebra to reclassify the results into high, medium and low. 97.4% of the total responses are associated with common crimes that occur near markets and main streets; police posts are not effective because they are located within the high and medium density of crime. 81.7% indicate that they have seen 5 crimes in 30 days with 125 repetitions occurring in the evening, night, and early morning, categorizing the city of Juliaca as very dangerous.

Keywords : Citizen insecurity; map algebra; police and spatial analysis.
