Resumen

JASIN, Sofia; OLARTE, Iris  y  ACHINELLI, Marcela. Individual law or state irruption? The role of Demography in the analysis of family planning in the new era. Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2023, vol.10, n.1, pp.59-68. ISSN 2409-8752.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2023.010.01.059.

Demographic policies constitute a fundamental axis for the growth and development of countries. One of the demographic variables that had more studies was fertility, going through numerous interventions in people's sexuality. Birth control, contraceptives, and abortion law dictate the social and economic horizon. The progress, associated with the reduction of socioeconomic and political inequality, had as a scapegoat the number of children per woman, while poverty and large families were used as synonyms. Far from analyzing the role of the State, organizations and the private sector regarding the situation of (working) women and care policies, birth control was prioritized over providing equality. In this sense, just as in past decades the objective was to achieve economic growth based on minimizing costs, today -however- climate change poses a sustainable vision of production regardless of costs. In terms of development, the reproductive concepts of the collective unconscious have been changing and it is necessary for demography to update itself to the new epistemological needs related to fertility, focusing on the reproductive and cultural rights of people.

Palabras clave : fertility; gender; demographic policies.
