Abstract

The mental health of nursing professionals has been a focus of interest for health institutions, and more expressly in times of pandemic, due to the high exposure to strenuous physical and emotional conditions, due to the type of services provided in this crisis, a situation that is an addition to the already complex ones developed in the field of psychiatry. The present study focused on the objective of measuring the levels of anxiety and depression of the nursing staff of the Psychiatric Hospital of Asuncion, Paraguay in the year 2022. The design was quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, applied to 154 nursing professionals, where the instruments used consisted of the Beck depression and anxiety inventories. The results identified that 55% of the personnel were female and 45% male; in relation to anxiety, 79% scored low, 12% moderate and 9% severe; depression was not present in 61%, 18% mild, 12% moderate and 9% severe. It is concluded that the population studied, although it presents majority levels of no depression and mild anxiety, 1 out of every 4 participants suffers from some form of depression and about 2 out of every 10 moderate to severe anxiety.
