Abstract

BRITEZ-ROJAS, Araceli Soledad  and  CABRAL-LOPEZ, María Antonella. Global Competitiveness Index and economic development. Paraguayan case (2008-2018). Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2022, vol.9, n.2, pp.3-15. ISSN 2409-8752.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2022.009.02.003.

Competitiveness is a relevant issue for economies worldwide. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the variables that make up the Global Competitiveness Index on the economic development of Paraguay for the period 2008 - 2018. The methodological design was bibliographic-documentary, at an explanatory level which resorted to statistics and the development of an econometric model. Among the main results, the relationship between some of the components of the index and economic development can be noted. This can be appreciated by the significance of sub-index A: basic requirements, and sub-index B: efficiency enhancers, in the econometric model. It is concluded that knowing the aspects linked to competitiveness will be of great use and will allow us to have more tools to undertake relative actions to promote the economic development of the country.

Keywords : Competitiveness; Global Competitiveness Index; Economic development; Paraguay.
