Based on documentary analysis and interviews, using the qualitative method, it is shown that first sociology entered the country with the chair modality, and through the National University of Asunción (UNA); that since the positivism exceeded the essay. Second, that with the foundation of the Paraguayan Center for Sociological Studies (CPES) started the development of the modality of the new empirical sociology, overlapping both in the historical period from different institutional spaces. Finally, the sociology of chairs from the universities has been incorporating research, as well as that of the centers, directly and indirectly, the teaching work or of training, beyond the exclusive ones that generate new knowledge. And that, both developments are linked mainly to the urban capital area.
