Academic achievement as an object of study continues to be a topical subject despite having been approached from its various edges by numerous scholars. The objective is the reflexive analysis about the challenge faced by the teachers in the innovation of their pedagogical practice and the measurement of academic performance. The methodology used was qualitative, not experimental, descriptive, through the bibliographic review. It is concluded that the teacher is called to innovate his pedagogical practices and to facilitate the achievement of the intentional competences from his educational work banishing the traditional use of traditional methodologies with strong impact in the learning results and therefore in the academic performance. It recognizes, also, the protagonist role of the students themselves in the improvement of their learning and academic results according to the appropriate selection of learning strategies and their motivational implication towards the study.
