Abstract

CABALLERO MERLO, J.N. Priests and Prophets: the production style in social sciences from the chapels and 'The Cathedral' as academic enterprises. Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2017, vol.4, n.3, pp.71-79. ISSN 2409-8752.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2017.004(03)071-079.

Part of the results product of a five years´s research on "Teaching and Research in Sociological History of Sociology in Paraguay" are presented here, continuing a role of a previous work entitled "Duality in the division of labor in the production in sociology according to universities and chapels. The project set as the general objective to consider what are the forms of production in sociology in Paraguay. Linked to this, if there is any strong qualitative correlation between these forms of production and the institutional spaces from which it is produced. Partial findings suggest that there are two historically well defined models of production, the classroom model professionalizing university, and the one of research and consulting by private centers and chapels. The latter deserves special mention the Paraguayan Centre for Sociological Studies (ESCP), given the weight on the whole, its longevity tied to the pioneering of this style of production and management in social sciences. As specific objectives the already mentioned centers are also problematized as chapels and cathedral, as academic enterprises, despite of its status as image of non-profit organizations. Also, two leadership styles, both management and the concept of carrying out their activities in the process of producing knowledge are recognized, whether as social promotion and / or research strictu sensu.

Keywords : sociology; chapels; academic enterprises,; priests; prophets.
