Abstract

GONZALEZ GALEANO, M.F.. Academic stress-related response of college students of Asunción from december 2015 to march 2016: Comparing majors. Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2017, vol.4, n.3, pp.48-58. ISSN 2409-8752.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2017.004(03)048-058.

The aim of the study was to establish the differences between the different kinds of stress-associated responses according to the chosen major. The Canabach, Valle, Rodriguez and Piñeiro´s Questionnaire of Academic Stress-related Response was applied in a purpose sample of 353 students, who were sorted by field of study: Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Human Studies, Economics, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Art and Design. Compared to other groups, Health Sciences students got higher scores in physical exhaustion, sleep deprivation, and agitation. Statistically meaningful differences were found after comparing the results of this group with those of Engineering students regarding physical exhaustion (p = .001), sleep deprivation (p = .003), negative thoughts (p = .022), and agitation (p = .000). Moreover, when comparing the results of Healt Sciences students with the corresponding data coming from Economics students, the former group shows significantly higher scores than the last one in the dimensions of negative thoughts (p = .020) and agitation (p = .025).
