Resumen

THOMS, C; JAISER, L; NELL, S  y  RIECKER, N. Characteristics of science journalism for children: an exploratory analysis of science journals for children. Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2017, vol.4, n.1, pp.37-49. ISSN 2409-8752.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2017.004(01)037-049.

One of the main tasks of science journalism is to convey complex issues in an understandable way. Although both adults and kids are its intended audience, we know little about the kind of content that is being offered to a children's audience. The study started from this lack of empirical results. Six German science journals for children (N = 190 articles) were analyzed in order to describe in an explorative way the kind of content they offer and the way in which knowledge from different areas is presented. More than half of the articles present knowledge. General knowledge that does not necessarily have its origin in the scientific world predominates. The most important journalistic tools are visualization and the search for contact points within the children's world, for instance by appointing people from the children's environment.

Palabras clave : science journalism; magazines; children; content analysis.
