Abstract

PERIS, C. The reformulationof insecurity Paradigms about the phenomenon from the social sciences. Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2016, vol.3, n.1, pp.40-46. ISSN 2409-8752.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2016.003(01)040-046.

The article aimed to study the main theories that investigated insecurity from a Social Science perspective. Essential and current at all times of mankind, security was exposed as a basic need to be achieved by any society; ultimately, because human beings always sought to be free from fear and danger. Thus, it is first showed the construction of the phenomenon from a "technical-organizational" approach, where disadvantages in this matter were born by bad practices of the police force; and in a second order, through a "media-political" view, where insecurity was erected by the characteristic speeches from politicians and information channels. Problematizing and explaining each of them, the study concluded that both paradigms were established with serious limitations since none encompassed the complexity and subjectivity that requires the analysis of this topic, and moreover often had been conducive to xenophobia, simplistic and stereotyped narratives.

Keywords : insecurity; paradigms; police; media; politics.
