Introduction: Information Units should ensure that collections are protected, safe, available, maintained and preserved. Objective: To describe the preservation and conservation policies used in Information Units of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción for bibliographic. Methodology: They were being studied 15 libraries of the Library Network of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción. Results: In terms of preservation and conservation actions undertaken by libraries studied most attention from printed documents and to a lesser extent for the documents in electronic and digital support was found. As regards the state of deterioration of paper documents bibliographic the highest percentage of the book collection was up 30% to serious condition, up to 35% for moderate condition and 40% for mild impairment status. As for staff training 67% of surveyed libraries report that staff have received training in the area. As for the factors of deterioration 33% of the libraries surveyed consider that the collection has some kind of microorganisms, so mostly 53%, recorded the presence of biological factors (fungi, insects, and rodents). Conclusion: The findings suggest that most libraries do not have a defined policy of preservation and conservation.
