Normally a university arises from the need to provide undergraduate education to society; however the Universidad del Cono Sur de las Americas, UCSA has arisen from the need to provide academic support to some graduate and continuing education programs in the area of management. This origin has printed a strong orientation of the university toward its environment.The continuous education programs of UCSA are not only directed to undergraduate students, but primarily toward young adult people in order to provide them with training skills and quick job opportunities according to market demand in the areas of Information Technology and Communication. These programs are intended to help reduce the digital divide between the Paraguayan population and the rest of the world. The article also describes the implementation of a project that aims to transform the ICT Training Center of UCSA into a real Development Center in the areas of ICT, Electrical, Automation and Industrial Process that is being carried out successfully.With continuing education UCSA aims to contribute to increased productivity and competitiveness of the country through the promotion of a culture of innovation and transfer of technology and knowledge from universities to the business sector, and to promote sustainable development, with the training of citizens responsible for the production of goods and services. Another issue in the paper is the relationship between extension (university-industry relationship) and academic activities as well as the integration of the two actions in the academic curriculum of the student, in order to incorporate the dimension of the extension in the purely academic dimension.
