Spinal cord compression syndrome is a neurosurgical emergency because early diagnosis and early treatment could reverse the disabling consequences caused by this disease. The causes of this syndrome can be traumatic, metastatic, infectious, and vascular (hematomas). Infectious etiology is not frequent and the main germ involved is usually Staphylococcus aureus.
Below we present the case of a 58-year-old patient with spinal cord compression syndrome of infectious etiology who was admitted to the Medical Clinic Service of the National Medical Center.
Keywords : spinal cord compression; subdural empyema; methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus; neurologic manifestations.
