Abstract

RIVEROS DURE, César Damián  and  QUINTANA ROTELA, Auda Alice. Autoimmune thyrogastric syndrome in a young woman. Rev. virtual Soc. Parag. Med. Int. [online]. 2022, vol.9, n.2, pp.160-165. ISSN 2312-3893.  https://doi.org/10.18004/rvspmi/2312-3893/2022.09.02.160.

Autoimmune thyrogastric syndrome is the association between two pathologies of autoimmune origin: pernicious anemia and autoimmune thyroiditis, which usually presents in older adults.

We present the case of a 34-year-old woman who consult about pericardial effusion associated with pancytopenia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency due to autoimmune atrophic gastritis. Autoimmune thyroiditis is diagnosed. She receives treatment with complex B and levothyroxine, with improvement of the effusion.

It is important that in the case of autoimmune pathologies, a systematic search for other diseases of the same lineage is carried out for the best clinical management.

Keywords : autoimmune thyrogastric syndrome; pernicious anemia; autoimmune thyroiditis.
