BARRIA OCARANZA, Rodrigo; MORALES OJEDA, Ismael Antonio  y  CERDA AEDO, Javiera. Epidemiological study of patients with diabetes mellitus at the Yanequen family health center, Chile. Rev. virtual Soc. Parag. Med. Int. [online]. 2022, vol.9, n.1, pp.34-44. ISSN 2312-3893.  https://doi.org/10.18004/rvspmi/2312-3893/2022.09.01.34.

Introduction:

Diabetes mellitus comprises a group of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism disorders, which has in common hyperglycemia and increased cardiovascular risk.

Objective:

To describe the epidemiological characteristics of type 1 and 2 diabetic patients at the Yanequen Family Health Center, Chile, in 2018.

Methodology:

A retrospective, cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out in patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus.

Results:

These averages stood out in the study: mean age 62 years, HbA1c 7.4%, LDL cholesterol 106.57 mg / dL, glomerular filtration rate 75.79 mL / min and albumin creatinine ratio 73.96 mg / g. 69% of the population had high blood pressure, 55% were overweight, and 24.9% had obesity. The Spearman correlation indicated a relationship between age and glomerular filtration rate (r -0.526, p 0.001).

Conclusions:

The symptoms of the diabetic patient in this consulting room were associated with cardiovascular factors, overweight or obesity. Therefore, more prevention and care measures are required in treatment.
