Abstract

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy is one of several clinical entities with compromise of the central nervous system caused by the JC virus in patients with HIV infection or in some other state of immunocompromise. It is a disease without proven effective specific treatment. We present the case of a 33-year-old patient with AIDS who developed this disease with progressive deterioration of the general condition until her death occurred 7 days after hospitalization.
