Introduction:

perceived quality is the judgment that a consumer makes about food and determines the decision to buy it.

Objective:

to describe the perception of bottled water consumers about its quality in Paraguay during 2022.

Materials and methods

: observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, temporally prospective study. The geographical scope was the entire country, and the temporal was the month of October 2020. The sampling was non-probabilistic for convenience. It was prepared with questions related to consumers' demographic characteristics and consumption habits, which was sent electronically.

Results:

215 consumers were surveyed, 52.1% (112) were women, 94% (202) were between 18 and 59 years old, 62.3% (134) were university students. 93.5% (201) consumed bottled water, and of these, 81.5% (167) drank mineral water. Consumers perceive that mineral water is free of contaminants and high quality (73.0%, 149) because tap water has a sour taste (22.1%, 45). 73% (154) looked at the product label, and of these, 76.8% (126) found all the information they were looking for. 36.7% (77) know the type of treatment carried out on the product, and 93.8% (196) believe that the product is of good quality. 95.3% (202) were aware of the health consequences that consuming contaminated water could cause, and 98.1% (208) would recommend its consumption.

Conclusion:

consumers' perception of bottled water quality is positive, to recommend its consumption.
