Resumen
BEJARANO, Domingo Pérez et al. Autoimmune disease and unusual infections in critically ill patient with COVID-19: case report. Rev. salud publica Parag. [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.1, pp.102-106. ISSN 2307-3349. https://doi.org/10.18004/rspp.2021.junio.102.
Introduction:
COVID-19 critical patients are subject to various types of complications in the intensive care unit.
Case presentation:
An adult with SARS-CoV-2 critical illness who presented two successive episodes of bacterial sepsis, developed pneumonia due to cytomegalovirus and varicella zoster virus (VZV) also. During successful treatment of these infections he presented systemic vasculitis with findings of autoimmunity serological markers and viral particles (VZV) in the skin.
Discussion:
Secondary infections are underestimated as clinical variables for outcome in critically ill patients with COVID-19. The presence of vasculitis could be an expression of the complex interaction between SARS-CoV-2 and different immunophenotypes. We believe that this report is one of the first to mention the association between varicella, vasculitis and COVID-19.
