Abstract

Introduction:

All the clinical manifestations of COVID-19 are still not clear to date, since the reported symptoms vary from mild to severe, asymptomatic, in many cases with a wide variety.

Objective:

Describe the clinical and epidemiological behavior of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in a Contingency Hospital for COVID-19 in Paraguay during 2020.

Methodology:

Observational, descriptive cross-sectional study. All the patients of both sexes, of all ages, with COVID-19 confirmed by nasopharyngeal swab from March 30 to August 15, 2020, who were admitted to the Hospital, were included in the study.

Results:

99 hospitalized patients entered the study, of which 34.34% (34) were 60 years of age or older, 59.59% (59) were male, 46.46% (46) had some positive contact, in 16.16% (16) the contagion was hospital, and 20.20% (20) came from outside the country. 87.87% (87) referred to fever, 81.81% (81) dyspnea, and 76.76% (76) myalgia and 22.22% (22) died.

Conclusion:

Most of the internees were 60 years old or older, they were male, and the most frequent signs and symptoms were fever, cough, and fatigue. Half of the hospitalized patients presented complications and the mortality recorded in this study was 22.22%, which corresponded to all the patients admitted to this hospital
