ZACARIA, Virginia Enciso et al. Gastric carcinoid tumor: a case report from the Clinical Oncology Service of the Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS). Rev. salud publica Parag. [online]. 2020, vol.10, n.2, pp.67-70. ISSN 2307-3349. https://doi.org/10.18004/rspp.2020.diciembre.67.
Introduction:
Neuroendocrine tumors (NET) are tumors composed by a heterogeneous group of neoplasms with low diagnosis incidence in our setting. The vast majority correspond to gastrointestinal origin, followed by those of lung location. Among neuroendocrine tumors are carcinoid tumors; whose presentation at gastric level is 2%.
Clinical case:
Is a case of gastric carcinoid tumor with typical symptoms diagnosed and treated in the HC-IPS; CT scan and upper digestive endoscopy with biopsy determined the location, morphology and histology of this disease. It was confirmed with chromogranin A positivity and synaptophysin in the immunohistochemical study. Treatment included resection of the tumor and octreotide administration for 8 months, with good evolution in follow-up by a complex multidisciplinary team.
Conclusion:
Neuroendocrine tumors are an oncological entity that is difficult to diagnose due to the complexity of the signs and symptoms that are masked by gastric epithelial tumors, with immunohistochemistry being the main pillar for diagnosis.
