Abstract

Introduction:
The role played by the donor's family is very important at the time of the decision of this generous position; this decision causes a change in their lives.
Objective:
To analyze the impact of organ donation on Paraguayan donor families between 2016 and 2019.
Materials and method:
Qualitative phenomenological study, about the essence of the lived experiences of 10 families that accepted organ donation, through the conformation of comprehensive categories of the phenomenon. In-depth interviews with the permission to record them, for the collection of the information was proceeded to telephone contact and home visits where an interview guide.
Results:
The experiences are described in 8 differentiable categories: understanding of the diagnosis of brain death, attitude at the time of donation, feelings after donation, role of transplant coordinators, meaning of donation, psychological support, economic aspect and the relationship with receivers.
Conclusion:
the experience of organ donation had a positive impact, family members feel proud, satisfied and calm with the decision taken. It is considered that good understanding of the diagnosis of Brain Death and previous conversation on the subject are key points.
