Introduction:

Meningococcal disease is a significant health problem worldwide. Most patients with meningeal infections in developed countries survive, but there are a percentage of previously healthy patients who succumb to fulminating forms despite the advances of intensive care medicine.

Objective:

To describe the epidemiological characteristics and clinical manifestations of invasive Neisseria Meningitidis infections in pediatric patients admitted to a referral hospital.

Material and Method:

Observational, descriptive, retrospective study, series of cases.

Results:

Higher incidence was registered in children under 5 years, mainly in children under 2 years, the most common initial symptom was fever in 4 (50%) of the cases, the most frequent clinical presentation was Meningitis in 5 ( 62.5%), of the total number of patients, 5 (62.5%) entered a PICU and the mortality in this series is 12%.
