Introduction: Cholecystitis is inflammation associated with infection of the gallbladder. It constitutes one of the most frequent emergency pictures of abdominal origin. One of the risk factors is diabetes mellitus, which is associated with an increased risk of gallstones.Patients and methods: 31 cases of acute calculous cholecystitis in diabetics undergoing surgery at the First Clinical Surgical Chair of the Hospital de Clínicas between 2015 and 2021, a retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study that aims to determine the clinical characteristics and surgical treatment of acute cholecystitis in type II Diabetes Mellitus patients. Results: 54.8% were female, average age 59.84. Mean body mass index was 28.63 +/- 8.03 kg/m2, 64.5% had previous episodes, 35.5% had previous symptomatic treatment, 64.5% had leukocytosis, main preoperative diagnosis was acute calculous cholecystitis 77.4%. Main approach route was conventional surgery 77.4%. Total cholecystectomy was performed in 96.8%. Conclusion: 190 / 5.000 Resultados de traducción Most of the patients were women, the approach was open in 74%, and the cholecystitis was gangrenous in 41.2%. Complications lengthened the stay of patients.
