Background:
Authorship in a journal is highly appreciated both in academia and in the private sector. Although there has been an upward trend in medical publications, the proportion of women among authors in the medical literature varies greatly by field, authorship position, and journal. Recently, women have been shown to have a greater impact on the literature. Around the world, women have made substantial strides in participation in the medical profession. Materials and methods: observational cross-sectional descriptive study, including all articles (original and case reports) published in the journal Cirugía Paraguaya, during the period 2011 to 2020. Results: 193 articles were published. Only 26.6% of the total authors were women, but 69.9% of the articles had at least one female author. As the first author, in 20.7% of the articles were women, and the corresponding female author was 25.9%. Conclusion: There is a gender disparity in relation to the gender authorship in Cirugía Paraguaya journal: very little participation of female authors.
