Abstract

ALDANA, Celso; INSFRAN, Wilson; SANDOVAL, José  and  BALMELLI, Bruno. "RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SCALP". Rev. Cir. Parag. [online]. 2018, vol.42, n.2, pp.25-27. ISSN 2307-0420.  https://doi.org/10.18004/sopaci.2018.agosto.25-27.

Introduction.

The most burns cause superficial injuries that carry few sequelae. Some nevertheless require surgical treatment due to the tissue damage caused. Among these, those that are located on the scalp require a particularly special treatment.

Objective.

The authors present the experience in surgical reconstruction of scalp lesions caused by deep burns.

Materials and methods.

Descriptive, observational and retrospective study of consecutive cases. Patients with a diagnosis of burn, with a specific location on the scalp (primary or secondary lesion), in the period between January 2016 and January 2017, and who received reconstructive surgical treatment were included.

Results.

The total population (15 cases) was male, with an average age of 35 years. 73% of the cases were due to electric burns, with 60% being third degree burns located mostly in the vertex and occipital region. All the lesions were reconstructed with flaps that presented favorable evolution.

Conclusion.

The reconstruction with flaps constitutes one of the main strategies to solve the complex wounds located in the scalp.
