Abstract

Introduction:

In the field of education the use of the technologies of information and communication (TICs), is what is known as the technologiesof learning and knowledge (TLKs) where not only stores and manages information, but that it becomes in knowledge. Thus, is the transformation of knowledge and further learning information.

Objective:

to determine the usefulness of the TACs, from the perspective of the residents of the postgraduate degree ofGeneral Surgery of the Faculty of medical sciences of the National University of Asunción in their vocational training. Methodology: quantitative, descriptive, observational, prospective study of students from post grade of General Surgery of the Faculty of medical sciences - which coursed in year 2017.

Results:

the age had a range of 29 to 31 years (66.7%) with greater involvement of the residents of the 3rd year, being 40% % of all respondents of the 3 levels and the new residents who participated less (26.7% of the total). The types of most commonly used technologies were: 93% books in PDF and similar formats and 80% internet. The least used were scientific journals and virtual platform, with a 33.3% each. The frequency of internet use was high, as was held in 2 or more times a day until a 57.1% of respondents, followed by 21.4%, which uses it to once a day, the books in PDF or similar formats were used from 2 to 6 times a week in a 40%, and 1 to 5 times a month, at 46.7% (6.7% used it 2 or more times a day). With respect to the perception of usefulness of virtual platform, 46.7% perceived that it was useful, 26.7% was unhelpful, and only a 6.7% thought that it was very useful. The remaining 20% was unaware of the existence of the virtual platform.

Conclusion:

General surgery residents perceive that the TLKshas been useful in 53.3%, very useful in 40%, and only 6.7% which wasn't them useful.
