ABSTRACT Background: One of the novelties in acute pancreatitis is the new severity classification. It is based on two fundamental principles, these factors are necrosis (peri) pancreatic and organ failure. Acute mild, moderate, severe and critical pancreatitis: When these two principles are applied, 4 categories of severity appear.Objetives: Describe our results, applying the Petrov classification. Patients and Methods: Adult patients with a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis admitted to the general surgery from April 2013 to April 2015, is a retrospective study of data collected prospectively. Results: 350 patients were admitted, of which 72% were mujeres. The etiology was biliary in 93% .Among mild and moderate occupy 82%. We found 18.4% of cholelithiasis. 72% of infected pancreatic necrosis was managed with percutaneous drainage. There was no mortality in mild and moderate. Mortality in severe 10% and 55% in the critical. Conclusions: Our pancreatitis are predominantly biliary, female and classification of Petrov, is a good system to stratify the severity of acute pancreatitis, because it uses real factors of gravity.
