SUMMARY Hydatid disease is a parasitic zoonosis caused by Echinococcus granulosus, and its larval form is the most common causative agent. It is a public health problem in countries involved in livestock production, such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Peru. Hydatid cyst in humans is usually located in liver (60-75%) and lung (15-30%), involvement in 5-10% is synchronous, in the remaining 10% have been reported other locations: mediastinum, bone, brain, kidney, pancreas, soft tissue. Splenic hydatid disease is rare and its incidence is about 2-3,5% according to different authors. This paper reports a case of splenic hydatidosis in Luques Regional Hospital.
