Abstract

SUMMARY Bezoars are a solid mass made up of fibers, hairs or bits of food intake, which usually remain in the stomach. Trichobezoars, formed by hairs, are more common in female patients with a history of childhood trichotillomania and trichophagia. For diagnostic images are used as plain abdominal radiography, abdominal radiography and barium upper gastrointestinal endoscopy allows direct visualization. The treatment is surgical gastrostomy trichobezoar above plus psychiatric support. Our case corresponds to a 16-year history of trichophagia, that consulted for abdominal pain, vomiting and abdominal distension. Is performed laboratory studies, imaging and endoscopic diagnosis of reaching high mechanical intestinal obstruction by trichobezoar is confirmed during the surgery done to remove it. Indicated Surgery and trichobezoar by gastrotomy Removing the above. The evolution was favorable, which graduated the fifth day post-op, with recommendations to attend outpatient general surgery and psychology.
