ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the procedure, indications, advantages, and the complications associated with the installation of the subcutaneous venous reservoirs. Design: retrospective, longitudinal, observational, non-randomized. Materials and methods: From March 2011 to June 2012, were installed a total of 61 subcutaneous venous reservoirs by a single surgical group, in 60 consecutive patients and non-selected. Results: Of the total 57% of patients were men and 43% women. The indication of installation of the venous reservoir was for chemotherapy in 98% and 2% for the treatment of pain. Oncological diseases were more frequent: colon, rectum and haematological in the first three places in order of frequency. There was no mortality or morbidity. A case presented infection, in another case it was found malfunctioning of the proximal catheter by kink of the same, in both withdrew from the reservoirs. Conclusions: the placement of subcutaneous venous reservoir is a safe procedure with minimal complications and mortality null in this work, offers safety and well-being of the patients for the intravenous therapeutic management.
