Abstract

VILLALBA-CABRAL, Bernardo  and  MUSALEM-CASTILLEJOS, Karim. Sustainability evaluation of a productive farm in the Humid Chaco, Paraguay: methodological experience. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.2, pp.122-129. ISSN 2305-0683.  https://doi.org/10.18004/investig.agrar.2022.diciembre.2402708.

Socioeconomic and environmental pressures related to agriculture raise questions about sustainability. An alternative to face these pressures and design sustainable strategies is to evaluate the sustainability of productive farms in order to provide basic information. This exploratory work reports the sustainability evaluation of a farm, carried out with the RISE (Response-Inducing Sustainability Evaluation) methodology. The objectives were to evaluate the sustainability of a farm in the Humid Chaco and identify the challenges of using the methodology. The latter included a characterization of the ecoregion, an interview with a key informant, the calculation of results, and feedback. The results show a critical level of biodiversity and a positive level in the other topics evaluated. RISE collects and systematizes data relevant to the sustainability assessment, although adapting the data to the RISE format is a challenge. For future research it is recommended to increase the number of farms evaluated.

Keywords : sustainability indicators; RISE; sustainable agriculture.
