Resumen

LOPEZ, Tomás Rodrigo et al. Growth kinetics and lipid productivity of algae Tetradesmus wisconsinensis S. obtained in water bodies in Paraguay. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.1, pp.22-29. ISSN 2305-0683.  https://doi.org/10.18004/investig.agrar.2016.junio.22-29.

The biocinetic and lipidic characteristics of the microalgae Tetradesmus wisconsinensis were assessed. Pure strains isolated from the Ypacaraí lake were obtained and later cultured in Bristol’s medium and scaled up to volumes of 5 L. Growth kinetics was performed by Neubauer chamber counting. Algae were cultured in two ventilation conditions: one by manual stirring three times a day, and one by forced ventilation at 0.7 vvm, both in triplicate. For the determination lipid yield, biomass was harvested by vacuum filtration, sample’s humidity level was measured and oils were extracted through solvent method using alcohol and petroleum ether; solvent was removed with a rotary evaporator. The strain showed prolonged growth, with a 0,113 d-1 specific growth rate in the manually stirred medium and a 0,17 d-1 specific growth rate at 0,7 vvm, and duplication times (Dt) of 6,13 and 4,02 days respectively. Biomass productivity was 0,044 g L-1 d-1 and lipid productivity was 4,81 mg L-1 d-1, with a percentage of extracted lipids of 11,85% (p/p) on a dry-based  biomass. As for the lipid profile, higher percentages of linoleic, linolenic and unsaturated fatty acids were obtained.
