Abstract

In order to determine the effect of the application of biostimulants on Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench tolerance to different levels of salinity, a research was conducted in a greenhouse at the Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción. The experimental design was completely randomized with 4 x 2 factorial arrangement, treatments consisted of four electrical conductivity (EC) levels in irrigation water (0, 2, 4 and 6 dS/m) and the application or not of the biostimulants in seed inoculation (6% free amino acids) and on the foliage (30% free amino acids), reaching eight treatments according to the combination of both factors and five replicates. The evaluated variables were percentage of emergence, fresh weight of the aerial part (FWAP), absolute growth rate (AGR), evolution of the height, final height, number, length and width of leaf, stem diameter, leaf color, mortality index and K+/Na+ in leaf, stem and root. Data were analyzed for variance, Tukey test (p ≤ 0.05), regression and correlation analysis. The increase in EC had a negative effect on all evaluated variables, been the differences statistically significant. The application of biostimulants produced a 64% increase in FWAP and AGR. At the 4 and 6 dS/m the mortality index was 43%. A reduction of the K+/Na+ with an increase of the EC was observed in all organs studied.
