The aim of this study was to obtain two tomato cultivars, one of them open pollinated, determinate growth type, fruit size between 150 and 250 grams, duration postharvest between 6 and 10 days, and another cultivar with the same characteristics, but indeterminate type. The Pytá Porá cultivar was selected by hybridization, individual progeny selection and backcross from crosses between the Santa Clara (Brazil) x Merry Road (Japan). The Pytá Guazú cultivar comes from BHN-270, obtained by the genealogical method. Both varieties were developed at the Hernando Bertoni Research Center of Caacupé, Paraguayan Institute of Agricultural Technology (IPTA), within the framework of the "Project for Improvement of Vegetable Production Technology for Small Producers in Paraguay". Regional trials were performed in the Departments of Central, Cordillera, Paraguarí and Caaguazú. These varieties were registered in 2006 in the National Register of Commercial Plant of the National Service of Quality and Vegetal health and Seeds (SENAVE). They were released as new varieties available to the producer. These varieties are among the top three developed in the country.
