PIRIS CORONEL, Lourdes Raquel  e  ENCISO GARAY, Cipriano Ramón. Lettuce and green onion production in associated seeding systems and monoculture. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2013, vol.15, n.1, pp.31-37. ISSN 2305-0683.

This work was conducted at the Centro Hortifrutícola de la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias de la Universidad Nacional de Asunción, located at 25º 21’ south, 57º 21’ west and altitude of 125 meters above sea level, between the months of August and November, 2009.  The objective was to determine fresh mass production of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and green onion (Allium fistulosum L.) in monoculture and associated with three and four rows per plots. Two experiments were conducted, implemented in a factorial design 2 x 2, where the studied factors were the cropping system (monoculture and associated) and the number of rows per plots (three and four) distributed in a randomized complete blocks with five replications. Data were submitted to analysis of variance and means compared by Tukey test at 5% of error probability. In lettuce and onion, fresh mass production and number of stalks by area were not affected by the culture system; however, monoculture led greater number of leaves per plant in onion (6) and height in lettuce (14.58 cm). The associated seeding system generated more equivalent yield in stalks per area in lettuce (136,879) and onion (74,783). With four rows per bed it was obtained higher number of stalks / ha on lettuce (59,051) and onion (59,872). In onion a significant interaction was detected, obtaining the highest total yield equivalent (90,585 stalks / ha) with four rows. The Land Equivalent Index and gross income were higher in the associated seeding system.

Palavras-chave : Lactuca sativa L; Allium fistulosum L; associated seeding system; leafy vegetables.
