Abstract

FLORENCIA, Arano¹; RAFAEL, Ortiz Domínguez; HAROLDO, Silva Imas¹  and  JUANA, De Egea². Potential for a native forest sustainable management in a cattle ranch of the Humid Chaco. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.2, pp.113-118. ISSN 2305-0683.

This study was conducted in the Department of Presidente Hayes, the objective was to evaluate the potential for a sustainable management of a native forest in a cattle ranch. There were installed ten plots of 1,000 m2 each, in which data of the diameter at breast height (DBH) and commercial height of trees with DBH > 10 cm were collected. Also within each plot, subplots of 200 m2 were set up to study natural regeneration. It was determined volume, basal area and number of species. Then, the value of stock wood in the forest studied was calculated, based on the selling prices of products obtained in wood deposits around Ñemby and Limpio, considering a third of the sale price as production cost. According to this financial analysis, each hectare of forest would generate a gross margin of US$ 30 per year. The results indicate that there is good potential for native forest management as a complement to other productive activities.
