Abstract

VARGAS ROMAN, Julio César  and  DUARTE, Alcides. Potential for rural tourism in company Paso Jhú of the Piribebuy district, Department of Cordillera, Paraguay. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2011, vol.13, n.2, pp.113-117. ISSN 2305-0683.

The rural tourism generates a set of human relations resulting from the visit of tourists to rural communities, to enjoy the environment, natural, cultural and productive values. In this context, tourism is seen as a natural way for the development of rural areas, especially the most disadvantaged, taking advantage of the resources of agriculture not only as raw material for the industry but as a pull factor for tourists. Given the focus of Human Ecology approach, the study consisted on a feasibility analysis for rural tourism development on farms. The study is descriptive, with a qualitative approach. The research was conducted at 73 km east of Asuncion, in the Compañía Paso Jhu, district of Piribebuy, department of Cordillera. The study population included families of the company, who were assisted by students of the School of Human Ecology. Studied variables were major tourist attractions, minimum physical conditions required and perception of families with respect to the development of rural tourism. The main tourist attractions are its watercourses, highlands, flora and housing infrastructure. The main activity is the family farm. Most families do not know about rural tourism but they are willing to carry out activities related to farm work and preparation of food.
