The national production of carrot concentrates between the months of August to December, reducing the offer during the other months of the year, increasing the possibility of major entry of the product from abroad. The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomical performance of five varieties of carrot in the summer-autumn period. The experiment was conducted a the Centro Hortifrutícola of the Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción, San Lorenzo, Paraguay (25º 21` South and 57º 27` West, 125 masl). The evaluated varieties were: Brasilia Irecê, Brazlandia, Brasilia, Brasilia Nina and Alvorada. The experimental design was randomized complete blocks with five replications. Planting date was 25/02/09 and harvest date was 30/05/09. Each experimental unit was represented by a plank of 1.20 m wide and 2.5 m long, where four rows of each variety were planted. The distance between rows was 25 cm and after the thinning it was leaved 20 plants per meter. The data obtained was analyzed for variance and the averages compared by Tukey test at 5% probability of error. The varieties Brazlandia and Brasilia Irecê produced the greater commercial yields (22.52 and 20.30 t/ha, respectively) and Alvorada the greater number of leaves per plant (10) and phloem thickness (0.83 cm); while Brazlandia had the longest root (13.78 cm). There were no differences between varieties for root diameter, total yield and longitude of leaves.
