AMARILLA SALINAS, Emiliano y ARIAS RUIZ DIAZ, Osmar René. Control of the leafcutter ant "Akeke" Acromyrmex landolti with entomopathogenic fungi. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2011, vol.13, n.1, pp.27-32. ISSN 2305-0683.
The experiment was conducted at the División de Floricultura of the Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias (FCA), Universidad Nacional de Asunción (UNA), located in San Lorenzo, Paraguay. The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae fungi as biological controllers of Acromyrmex landolti fracticornis. There were selected 100 nests of A. landolti fracticornis for the application of formulations at a dose of 5, 10 and 20 g with 10 replications, respectively. We evaluated the efficacy of the products through the formula of Henderson and Tilton, taking as data the number of active and inactive nests. Evaluations were made at 8, 15, 22, 30 and 60 days, at the end of the evaluations nests were dug to determine if there was ant activity. At the time of evaluation there were observed empty chambers and straw remains. The best results were obtained with a dose of 20 g of Beauveria bassiana, with 80% efficiency, the dose of 20g Metarhizium anisopliae and the mixture of both fungi yielded 70% efficiency.
