Abstract
GONZALEZ ESPINOLA, Diego Dionisio and OVIEDO DE CRISTALDO, Rosa María. Phenotypic variability of sesame plants (Sesamum indicum L.), Escoba variety, with three purification cycles. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2011, vol.13, n.1, pp.5-12. ISSN 2305-0683.
The trial was carried out in the experimental field of the Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción, in San Lorenzo city. The objective of the experiment was to compare the phenotypic variability observed in sesame plants, variety Escoba, with three consecutive rowing cycles and also to determine the variation ampleness of the phenotypic evaluated characters. The data analysis was carried out by using the completely random design with 31 treatments, corresponding to the selected progenies, and 12 single plants in each treatment as repetitions. The evaluations were made according the approaches based on the Descriptors for Sesame by International Board for Plant Genetics Resources (IBPGR). The results indicate highest variations in the agronomic evaluation characters: capsules per plant, number of seeds per capsule and single plant yield, with higher variation coefficients. The morphological characters that showed variations were: branching habit, foveola colour, and capsule shape, with lower variation coefficients. The treatments 3, 4, 6 and 7 did not show morphological characters variations; therefore those progenies are considered stabilized. The seeds of those treatments could be used as foundation seeds.
