Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the ability of transmitting the virus potyvirus CABMV (Cowpea aphid borne mosaic virus) by the bean aphid, Aphis craccivora, as a vector in plants of Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.), after acquiring the virus culture bean (Vigna unguiculata). The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse of the Experimental Station of the Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias (FCA) of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (UNA), located on the campus of San Lorenzo. The experimental design was completely randomized, with two treatments and 52 repetitions, where treatment is a sesame plants inoculated with the virus by Aphis craccivora, treatment two is the absolute control. The variables evaluated were: virus incidence (number of plants showing symptoms of the virus) in sesame plants inoculated at 28 days after emergence (DAE), and the virus's incubation period (time of appearance of viral symptoms days). Observations were made daily for 7 weeks, and the results were expressed as a percentage. We conclude that Aphis craccivora, acquiring the virus in bean plants, a non-persistent transmitted potyvirus CABMV sesame plants with low incidence of the virus. These results were confirmed by biological tests, the virus indicator plants (Chenopodium amaranticolor).
