TERRAZAS DOMANICZKY, María Alejandra y RABERY CACERES, Sixto Hugo. Seed germination of sunflower planted at different depths. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2010, vol.12, n.2, pp.63-67. ISSN 2305-0683.
In the Seed Laboratory of the Departamento de Producción Agrícola of the Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias, Universidad Nacional de Asunción, San Lorenzo, Paraguay, an experiment was conducted in the second half of 2009, to evaluate the germination, emergence and growth of two sunflower Helianthus annuus L. hybrids, with seeds sown in eight depths in a completely randomized design with three replications. The percentage of emergence, aerial part height, root length and dry mass produced by the hybrids GAC 100 and DK 3940 were evaluated. The sowing depths were 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 cm in a substrate of 2/3 washed sand and 1/3 of agricultural soil, both sterilized. For the data analysis results were transformed and then subjected to regression analysis. The results showed that seedling emergence occurs in all sowing depths, but the highest percentage occurs up to 3 cm depth. In all of the growth characteristics of seedlings, the hybrid variety GAC 100 showed higher values than the DK 3940 variety.
