Abstract

RAMIREZ DE LOPEZ, María Bernarda  and  GOMEZ LOPEZ, Víctor Adolfo. Biology of Spodoptera eridania(Cramer, 1782) (Lepidoptera; Noctuidae) on artificial diet, under laboratory conditions. Investig. Agrar. [online]. 2010, vol.12, n.1, pp.17-21. ISSN 2305-0683.

The experiment was conducted in the laboratories of the Division of Entomology, Department of Plant Protection, Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias, Universidad Nacional de Asunción. The biology of Spodoptera eridania was studied reared in natural diet (Glycine max) and artificial diet Parra (2001), under controlled conditions of temperature 25 ± 5ºC, relative humidity 70 ± 12 % and photophase of 12 hours. The parameters evaluated were duration and viability of larval stages, pre-pupal and pupal stages, pupal weight, adult longevity, fertility, pre-oviposition period, oviposition, hatching and viability of eggs. Longer duration and viability of the larval stage were observed in artificial diet (37 days and 66 %, respectively). The duration of the pre-pupal stage ranged from 1,5 to 1,48 days with a viability of 61 to 62 %. The duration of the pupal stage ranged from 15,45 to 12,86 days was higher in a natural diet. The viability of the pupal stage was higher in natural diet (91 %). The weight of pupae ranged from 0,20 to 0,21 g, the longevity of adults ranged from 11,28 to 15,43 days. The fecundity of females ranged from 930 to 1.502 eggs, obtaining higher values in natural diet. The duration of pre-oviposition period ranged from 2,75 to 6,68 days. The duration of oviposition period ranged from 6,75 to 8,90 days. The duration of egg incubation period ranged from 3,0 to 3,6 days with a viability of 52 a 94 %.
