Abstract: On February 24th Russia invades Ukraine, unleashing a conflict which is still ongoing. The main purpose of the UN Charter is to maintain international peace and security. Since then, an all-out war has been avoided, even though there have been many international and other armed conflicts. Conflict in Ukraine is not just another international armed one. For the second time (after Cuban missiles crisis 1962), we are facing the possibility - by domino effect - of triggering a Third World War. Russia has openly ignored its previous commitments, including UN Charter. International community has responded with energy, prudence and rationality, with few elements to cope with. Finally, political impacts are analyzed as well as legal shortcomings that have to be overcome in order to avoid repeating these facts.
